Project Description
WINNER: CCNZ Nelson Marlborough 2017 Awards, $200,000 – $750,000 Category
This project was for coastal erosion remedial work on the Tasman Great Taste Trail, a popular cycle/walking facility for locals. The work included shaping of the beach, laying of filter fabric and rock work to mitigate the risk of further erosion. The project also included re-barking and landscaping along the affected part of the trail.
The team had to carefully manage the environmental aspects of working on an old dump site and working on and around mud flats. We also had to carefully manage a detour for cyclists, along a busy public road.
Winter weather was a challenge, but with careful planning the team overcame the wet & cold conditions and focused our resources on the clear weather days, to complete the rock work within the allocated time frame.
Our skilled placement of rock has created ‘a work of art’, that not only protects the trail from further erosion but enhances the Great Taste Trail user experience.
